The Baumatic Chimney Cooker Hood F60.2SS

Bought a Baumatic Chimney Cooker Hood Model # F60.2SS only 18 months ago and the motor started making high pitch noise first, then now grunting noise. I expect it to die eventually. Is it just bad luck or common with the product? I will launch complaint to Baumatic but don’t expect any help, since it’s outside warranty. I had already had a Hotpoint which cost over £230 but died less than 3 years of use with switch problem. Why are these things cost so much and yet don’t last?

Sounds like the bearings in the fan motor are shot. It is sad to say that fewer things made today are made with the heavier duty parts that were standard 40 or 50 years ago.Is this model a residential or commercial, and how often do you use it. Is it vented to the outside if gas and it is it rated for the size of your range. These are all things to consider when looking for a replacement, alsohave you ever pulled the filters out and cleaned them as clogged filters put a much greater strain on the exhaust than normal. Just some things to remember.

Anything outside the warranty, forget it. They will only see it as a success so close to the end of the warranty. In future, always go with miele. You get what you pay for with them.

Are you sure the flexi ducting hasnt slipped down onto the vanes of the fan? slide the chimney section up and have a look as this is a common problem especially if tape has been used to secure it to the exhaust flange as the tape gets warm and brittle and falls off.
