The 50cm cooker extraction hood is the ideal size for combining the beauty of form and the practicalities of function. Especially if your kitchen size doesn’t happen to match Gordon Ramsey’s.
Regardless of whether your kitchen is suited for the type of 50cm cooker hood extractor unit that expels the air to the outside world, or if your cooker is the island type (sitting in the middle of your kitchen) and you want one that will draw-in the air from your cooker work area, filter it (to remove those cooking odours) and return it fresh into your kitchen, then there is a suitable cooker hood for you.
Whatever your preference for kitchen design (perhaps you already have a Manufacturer’s theme to your kitchen, you will find a 50 cm extractor hood that will go with all the major kitchen appliance manufacturers; Neff, Belling, Bosch, Elica, Electrolux there will be many available that will install seamlessly into your kitchen).
Choosing the Type of Cooker Hood for You Could Not Be Simpler. The first decision will be whether you want the vent-to-the-outside or the re-circulating type.
The first is probably the better in terms of overall performance but often will be prohibitively expensive or downright aesthetically displeasing as vent pipes will have to be run from the outside of the home to the location of the oven.
Often the piping can be hidden in ceiling spaces or boxed-off within wall mounted storage units so much depends upon the layout of your kitchen and the existing infrastructure to get the air from your cooker to the outside world.
The vent-to-the-outside variety of cooker extraction hood will do an excellent job of keeping any kitchen clear of condensation and cooking smells.
The re-circulator type of cooker extractor hood is an understandably very popular alternative. It uses the same grease filters that are fitted in the vent-to-airs but also has a second charcoal filter which does an excellent job of removing cooking odours.
The re-circulator of course requires mimimal installation considerations as it does not require additional pipework installed. It simply sits directly above the cooker range and extracts then filters the air. The charcoal filters require periodic replacement but there are many sources of inexpensive generic filters which you can simply cut to size for your particular model.
The same wide range of styles and finishes is available for both types of cooker extraction hoods, in fact typically the same model can be ordered and used in either operating mode. The only other considerations you need to make (regardless of which type of 50cm cooker extractor hood you are thinking of installing) are: -Getting an electrical supply to the hood. Typically this is not a problem as any spare standard mains socket will do the job.
The mounting height of the extractor hood above the cooker range. There are a few points to bear in mind here. It must be low enough that you can reach the fan/light switches with comfort (these switches are usually located at the base of the hood).
It must not be so low that you spend more time concussed than cooking or that (for gas hob users) the heat from an uncovered burner poses a threat to the hood.
Hopefully this short introduction has whetted your appetite, installation is much more staright forward than you probably thought and that gleaming stainless steel 50cm cooker hood may soon be a reality in your kitchen.
